FC Barcelona Chief Confident About Registering Gavi’s Contract Amidst Chelsea Rumours.

Gavi’s contract extension required him to be registered in the first-team squad, but La Liga cancelled his registration, reverting him back to a youth player, as Barca were unable to comply with the salary cap limits when the youngster’s £7million-a-year wages were factored in. This means that Gavi remains on his previous contract, which will run out in June 2023 and technically he could be available on a free transfer this summer.

Such a situation has alerted a number of clubs, particularly in the Premier League, with both Liverpool and Manchester City linked with moves before Chelsea emerged as the frontrunner for his signature.

After rising through the youth ranks, Gavi has recently been one of Barca’s brightest players. The 18-year-old has become a regular starter in Xavi’s team and was rewarded with a new contract until 2026 in September last year and has already racked up 19 caps for Spain.

FC Barcelona Chief Confident That Gavi Will Stay.

Barcelona Chief Mateu Alemany spoke about Gavi before their Sunday’s draw with Getafe in La Liga. Alemany says he’s not worried about the situation regarding Gavi’s contract and thinks the player will spend his entire career at Camp Nou.

Alemany said that “Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons and he has three more to go, he’s sure he’s going to honour his contract. We are convinced that he is going to finish his career at Barca. There is no problem.”

He added that “When the transfer window closes, we are already thinking about the next one. This is part of the show. That’s nice for the fans, but we work all year long to be in a good position for the market. Now we have to focus on the team and the competition, on winning the title as soon as possible. There will be a long summer for signings.”

Manager Xavi Also Expects Gavi In The Club For Long Term.

Many clubs across Europe have registered an interest in signing the Spanish midfielder in the summer. However, Barcelona manager Xavi said that the youngster must remain with Barca.

Speaking at a press conference, the Barcelona manager said that Gavi wouldn’t be as happy at any other team as he is with the Catalan side. The Barca manager hailed Gavi as a very important player who excites him and said that his future lies with Barcelona.

Xavi said in a press conference that “I don’t know what other people are thinking, but I think that Gavi would not be as happy at any other team than he is at Barca. He has everything here, we value him, he’s a starter at 18, he’s decisive for the team.”

Xavi added “He’s a very important player and he’s a player that excites me. He’s a marvellous footballer, and I think his future lies at Barca — he would not be as happy elsewhere.”
