Ex-Real Madrid midfielder Isco joins Real Betis

Former Real Madrid midfielder Isco joins Real Betis on a one-year deal. The Spaniard was a free agent when he decided to leave Sevilla in December.

Moreover, after Julen Lopetegui left Sevilla to join Wolves, the breakdown of his relationship with the club started. He also had a fallout with then-Sporting Director Monchi.

Isco had only joined Sevilla from Real Madrid a few months prior, but the breakdown of his relationship with the club meant that he did not last very long at Los Nervionenses.

Isco will now return to Seville but to play for Sevilla’s bitter rivals Real Betis.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini wanted the midfielder in his team ahead of the new season. The 31-year-old Malaga native will be looking to revive his career, which has suffered several setbacks over the years.

Isco joins Real Betis and hopes to revive his footballing career

Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga in 2013 and was part of the team that won five Champions League titles. He has also played with the likes of: Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Sergio Ramos.

The 31-year-old also helped Real Madrid to win the Champions League three times in a row. Then manager Zinedine Zidane used Isco as a fourth midfielder just behind Ronaldo and Benzema.

However, his career took a huge U-turn, and then he ended up joining Sevilla. Isco also told in an interview that sporting director Monchi physically assaulted him, and that led to the fallout.

Moreover, his salary demands were so high that it was difficult to find a club for him after his spell in Seville. Real Sociedad were also interested in signing him after David Silva suffered an injury, but ultimately Betis have now signed him.

The midfielder will also hope to return to earn a call from his national side. He has not represented Spain’s national team since 2018.
