India, the reigning champions of the Asian Kabaddi Championship, have begun their title defense in exceptional form, securing convincing wins against the Republic of Korea and Chinese Taipei. The Indian men’s kabaddi team has showcased their dominance and reaffirmed their status as the team to beat in the tournament.

India vs. Korea: Commanding Performance

In their first match against the host nation, the Republic of Korea, India displayed their dominance right from the start. Led by debutant Aslam Inamdar, who substituted seasoned raider Naveen Kumar, India registered an emphatic 76-13 victory. Inamdar’s stellar performance earned him a super 10, significantly contributing to India’s triumph.

India asserted their authority early in the match, scoring nine consecutive points before Korea managed to open their account. The first half concluded with India leading by a massive 36-point margin at 40-4. Despite Korea scoring nine points in the second half, India’s clinical all-round performance ensured a resounding victory. The Indian team executed five all-outs, and Surjeet Narwal’s impressive defense contributed seven tackle points.

India vs. Chinese Taipei: Dominance Continues

In their second match of the day, India faced a slightly tougher challenge from Chinese Taipei. Led by Sachin’s exceptional all-round display, India emerged triumphant with a commanding scoreline of 53-19.

The game began with both teams exchanging points, but India quickly gained momentum, securing eight consecutive points, including an all-out in the 12th minute. At halftime, India enjoyed a comfortable lead of 21-12. In the second half, India continued their dominance, executing three all-outs and accumulating a flurry of points, ultimately sealing a 34-point victory.

The Indian kabaddi team now looks forward to their next encounter against Japan, scheduled for Wednesday. The highly anticipated clash against Iran, the 2003 champions, will take place on Thursday, further intensifying the excitement surrounding the tournament.

Tournament Format

The Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 features six participating nations, including India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Hong Kong. The tournament follows a single-legged round-robin format, where each team competes against the others. The top two teams from the league phase will advance to the final, which is set to take place on Friday.
