De Jong boards flight to England setting transfer rumors on fire; Fabrizio Romano clarifies
Frankie De Jong has been a hot target this transfer season. According to internet reports, he is actively being pursued by Manchester United, Chelsea, and even Bayern.
Amid these reports, the player was caught flying off to London by El Chiringuito. They tweeted about the same a few hours ago, which has set the internet on fire. Several fans of the respective clubs interested in the player are running riots on the internet about De Jong making a move.
The truth, however, is far from all these baseless rumours. And for some users, it might even come as a heart-breaking surprise.
Fabrizio Romano on De Jong’s departure to London
According to Fabrizio, the player is not headed to England to join a club. After the viral pictures went viral, Fabrizio said, “I was checking during the morning, and Frankie is travelling together with Memphis Depay because he’s on holiday. Xavi decided to give some holiday to the player after their amazing game for Barcelona.”
The internet is also full of stories about Frankie travelling to England along with Depay to attend the marriage of his compatriot Donny van de Beek. The Manchester United midfielder is all set to marry Estelle Bergkamp.
De Jong the center of attraction in Europe
Although this doesn’t discount the fact that Frankie De Jong is not a hot target in England. Earlier, both United and Barcelona had agreed on a £63 million deal with £8.47 million in add-on for De Jong. But the Dutchman was unwilling to leave.
Later, Chelsea also joined the race for the player. They made some thorough inquiries about the player. But their attempt, too, was met with a firm wall. This sent a strong message that De Jong sees a future in Barcelona.
Last week all the rumours were cleared as De Jong agreed to defer £14 million of his wages. Hence prolonging his stay on the Catalonian side. Frankie De Jong has been with the side since 2019 and is yet to win a major silverware with the team.
