Could’ve scored 300 also: Ishan Kishan after scoring fastest 200 in ODIs

The 24-year-old, Ranchi boy’s fabulous double-ton against Bangladesh got his name to stand out amongst the best in the world. Ishan Kishan’s 210 off 126 balls is the fastest ever in Men’s ODI. Previously, the record was held by the Universe boss Chris Gayle, but Ishan Kishan surpassed him by 12 balls. However, the hunger for more got him eyeing something even bigger.

Not much ago, Ishan Kishan had missed out on his maiden international century. Playing against South Africa, Ishan got to a quick 93 on his home ground. However, the young boy had to settle for less that day. But now, not only he has a hundred but a double hundred in his name.

Moreover, the opener batter had 15 overs left in the innings when he reached this milestone. While speaking to the broadcaster’s host. Kishan mentioned that with the 15 overs left he could have scored a 300 too. With the strike rate at which Kishan was hitting the ball, no wonder why he was eyeing on something bigger.

“I’m blessed to hear my name alongside such legends. Still feel when I got out, 15 overs were left. Could’ve scored 300 also!”

Further, Ishan stated that out of the two pitches the team has played on in this series until now, Chattogram had a true bounce to offer to the batters, making it easy for them to hit shots. As he said,

“The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear: if the ball is there, I’ll go for it.”

Virat Kohli and Ishan Kishan’s duo brought up a rand 290-run partnership for the second wicket. In the inning-break interview, the lefty batter said that batting with such an experienced player helped him stay grounded and not throw it away as he has done on several occasions.   

“Batting with Virat bhai… he has such a good sense of the game. He was spot on with which bowlers I needed to select (pick and target). He was calming me down when I was in my 90s. I wanted to bring it up with a six, but he said to get it in singles as it’s my first.”

In the pre-match net session, Kishan was spotted having a stretched time in the nets, with his IPL team member Surya Kumar Yadav sharing a piece of advice that made a difference in his innings. The in-form Surya Kumar Yadav is known for his attacking style of batting and no-pressure-felt confidence, hence, any piece of advice shared by such a marvelous player makes a huge difference in others’ minds.

“Had a chat with Surya bhai. He said when you bat before the game, you see the ball well. I didn’t take too much pressure on myself. Just wanted to make use of the opportunity.”
