Chennai Super Kings: Most Runs Scorers, Most Wickets Taker, And Catches for CSK in IPL

Chennai Super Kings is one of the most influential team in the whole of Indian Premier League. They have been a part of the league since it’s inception, and have won second most title after Mumbai Indians.

In the 13 seasons that they have featured in the tournament, they have made it to the final on 9 occasions. And won the tournament on 4 occasions, making them one of the most successful team in the IPL.

A team however doesn’t become so much successful in one of the most competitive leagues without individual performances by their players. Hence, in this article, we will look at the most runs scorer for Chennai Super Kings, along with the most wickets and catch takers.

It doesnt come as a surprise that Raina has the most catches for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. He is indeed one of the best fielder to have ever played the game of cricket. Hence his total tally of 110 catches for CSK is a very common feat for any cricket fan who known the great prowess possessed by Raina.

  • Ravindra Jadeja 73 catches

The same is true for Jadeja as well. He too has been a phenomenal fielder over the years for Chennai Super Kings and team India. Hence his tally of 73 catches for Chennai Super Kings is very much justifiable for his great fielding prowess.

Most Runs Scorer for CSK Overview

  • Suresh Raina 5529 runs

Dubbed as Mr IPL, there is no surprise in the fact that Suresh Raina is the highest run scorer for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. He has been an influential player for not only the CSK squad but for Indian team as well.

Suresh Raina was one of the first players to join the Chennai Super Kings squad in 2008. It was his batting heroics that led them to the final of the inaugural tournament itself. But sadly, they couldn’t win the tournament. However his performance was just a highlight of the top scoring performances for CSK that were about to come in the coming seasons.

In the time he spent with Chennai Super Kings, Suresh Raina played a total of 200 games and managed to score 5529 runs in those matches at an average of 33 and strike rate of 138. He also has the most number of fifties to his name for the franchise as well.

Raina was a great asset for the team and won his fourth title with the side before retiring in 2021. And will always remain the top scorer and one of the most important players for CSK.

  • MS Dhoni 4853 runs

Another great player to have graced the game and represented Chennai Super Kings is non other than “Thala” Mahendra Singh Dhoni. And it doesn’t surprise anyone to see him as the second most run scorer for CSK in IPL.

Dhoni has been exceptional leader of the team and although the dusk of his career is nearing by the minute, he has decided not to call quits on his career. He retired from international cricket in 2019 but has managed to carry CSK aloft and won the fourth title with the franchise in 2021 to shut his critics.

Dhoni also has been franchise since 2008. In fact he was the first player to have been registered by the Chennai Super Kings team. And in his 13 years at the franchise Dhoni has played 228 matches and scored 4853 runs at an average of 39.

He still continues to serve the team even after 16 years. And is still one of their top batters in IPL.

  • Faf du Plessis 2220 runs

Faf du Plessis is one of the most decorated South Africa shortest format players. And he is certainly the third most run scorer for Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

Faf joined the Chennai side in 2012 and although he didn’t have the best of time finding a place in the team, he made a huge impact once he was made the opener of the side. So much so, he managed to win the side 2 titles in the space of 3 years.

The former south African captain represented Chennai Super Kings for a span of 8 years. In that period he played 100 matches and scored 2220 runs at an average of 34. Faf also had strike rate of 132 while playing for Chennai Super Kings.

In his final season with the team, Faf du Plessis came mighty close to winning the orange cap. He lost out by just 1 run to his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad who was also his opening partner.

Faf is no longer with Chennai Super Kings. He has moved on to new venture in the form of Royal Challengers Bangalore. But that doesn’t change fact that he is one of the top scorers for CSK in IPL.

Most wickets for CSK Overview

  • Dwayne Bravo 154 wickets

Bravo has been a name that has been present in the t20 format for as long as anyone can remember. He has been one of the most reliable bowlers for any side he resents. And hence, he is the most wickets taker for Chennai Super Kings in IPL as well.

Bravo has been with the team for over a decade. He first made his appearance for the team in 2011, he was roped in from Mumbai Indians as an all-rounder. But he showcased his best performance with the ball in hand for the team, to emerge as the highest wicket taker for CSK.

In the 10 season that Bravo has been with the team, he has played 130 games with the team. And in those games, he managed to claim 154 wickets for Chennai Super Kings that too at an average of 8.32.

Bravo has retired from the IPL as a player, but The Chennai Super Kings know the importance of his presence in the camp. Hence they roped him as the bowling coach of the side.

  • Ravichandran Ashwin 120 wickets

Very few people remember Ashwin’s small stint with his home team that actually saw him reach the international stage of the game. And he has been an absolute legend in the rank with second highest wickets to his name for Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

Ashwin represented Chennai from 2009 to 2015 in IPL. In that period he played a total of 121 games and claimed 120 wickets in that time period for his side. These wickets came at an economy of 6.66 which is very impressive for a spinner.

Ashwin parted ways with Chennai once they were banned in 2016. Although the side returned in 2018, the played didn’t return with the side and eventually went on to play for sides like Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. Still he remains a legend among the ranks and is one of the highest wicket taker for Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

  • Ravindra Jadeja 114 wickets

Jadeja is considered as one of the most prolific allrounders in the game of cricket. It doesn’t matter which format it is, Jadeja has been in top notch form both with ball and bat in hand. However, he has not managed to create the same semblance for CSK with the bat in hand. Still, he is one of the most wicket takers for CSK in IPL.

Jadeja made a switch to Chennai in 2012 and since then has been an important part of the team. He has played a total of 156 for the side and has managed to claim 114 wickets to his name. Jadeja has also managed to claim a fifer for his side by picking up 5 wickets at expense of just 16 runs in an inning.

Jadeja is still with the team and will be looking to take over Ravichandran Ashwin in the upcoming season of IPL to become the second highest wicket taker for Chennai Super Kings in IPL.
