Barcelona sign Senegalese defender Mikayil Faye from NK Kustosija. The Senegalese will join in a deal worth €5 million plus add-ons.

Who is Mikayil Faye?

Mikayil Faye is dubbed as ‘The Monster’ for his forceful defending and ability to burst out from the back. Barca scouts were speechless. Faye has everything: pace, a great ball output, he can jump very high and he doesn’t lose balls.

Faye is a left-footed centre-back, but he can also play at left-back. He moved to NK Kustosija Zagreb earlier this year and has also played 14 matches for Zagreb.

His progress has not gone unnoticed, as several clubs were after him. Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and FC Barcelona were competing for his signature for the past few weeks. However, Barcelona have secured his signature.

He is last in the pecking order, behind Araujo, Kounde and Christensen and Martinez’s signing pushes him to far.

Xavi tried playing Garcia as a pivot, because he has good passing range. However, it did not work out. With Faye’s signing, it is looking likely that Garica will be sold.

The youngster will spend the start of pre-season with the first team, as Xavi will use the opportunity to evaluate his new signing.

Faye’s contract at Barcelona also has a €400m release clause.
