Barcelona release statement on Lionel Messi after he snubbed them to join MLS side Inter Miami. Messi confirmed that he would not be re-joining Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan club tried everything so that the Argentine would return for a second spell after a tough time at PSG.

Barcelona have released an official statement on their website addressing Messi’s decision.

In which they said, “Jorge Messi, the player’s father and representative, informed Club President Joan Laporta of the player’s decision to join Inter Miami, despite having been presented with a proposal from Barca, in consideration of the desire of both FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi for him to once again wear Blaugrana.

“President Laporta understood and respected Messi’s decision to want to compete in a league with fewer demands, further away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been subject to in recent years.

“Both Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi also agreed to work together to promote a proper tribute from Barça fans to honour a footballer who has been, is, and always will be beloved by Barca”.

Barcelona release statement on Messi after tiring negotiations

The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner has explained his decision to not sign with Barcelona in an interview with Marca.

Every Barca fan wanted Messi to return to his beloved club and finish his career where it all began. Even though he did not come, Barca still wants to pay a tribute to their legend.

According to the fans, Messi not returning to the club is not a negative for the club in sporting viewpoint. But, it hurts them emotionally. Not seeing the Argentine return home.

The Spanish giants will now focus on the news signings and departures for the new season. So that the club can compete in Europe again.

Xavi and Mateu Alemany will work on that, but their main priority to sign Messi did not go through.
