It’s Mehidy Hasan’s universe, and we’re all just passing through.

Another match-defining knock from Mehidy Hasan lifted the Bangla tigers out of trouble waters, as they posted a total of 271 in their 50-over quota.

After being dropped to 69/6 at one point, Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah mounted an incredible comeback to finish with 271/7. The pair put on a 147-run partnership to help Bangladesh fight back with the bat for the second game in a row, while Mehidy also scored his first ODI century.

After electing to bat, Bangladesh stumbled early on as Mohammad Siraj struck twice, dismissing both Anamul Haque and Litton Das. Umran Malik contributed to the destruction by dispatching Najmul Hossain Shanto with a 151kph delivery that uprooted the off stump. Washington Sundar pushed Bangladesh deeper down the order with three wickets in two overs, including the key ones of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.

The fifty-run partnership came off 62 balls, following which the duo accelerated. Bangladesh stormed away in the middle overs, both reaching fifties in short succession before Mahmudullah was caught behind against Umran Malik for 77.

At this point, India had another chance to slow the scoring rate, but Mehidy Hasan went nuts in the final four overs, smashing 34 runs in four overs, including two sixes in the penultimate over that got him to his maiden ODI century off the final ball of the innings.

India need 272 to level the series

With Rohit Sharma probably unavailable to play, the onus is now on Kohli and Dhawan’s expertise. It’s game time.
