Zambia FIFA Women’s World Cup Coach Bruce Mwape Accused of Sexual Misconduct

In a shocking unfolding, after FIFA had previously launched an investigation regarding an “allegation of misconduct”, it was the football association of Zambia who pretended to be “surprised” after claims of abuse by the women’s coach towards squad member at the ongoing World Cup came.

According to the sources, Bruce Mwape, the coach of the Zambian team has been accused by the players of rubbing the breasts of a player after a certain training session.

A FIFA spokesperson made a statement regarding the matter without giving specifications about the complaint and only said that they could confirm that the complaint had been received in relation to the Zambian women’s national team is being investigated currently.

They continued to say that any allegations of misconduct are taken extremely seriously by FIFA and they have a clear process for any staff or player who want to report an incident.

As per the data, Zambian women’s football scene has always been infested by the improper conduct allegations and after these repots of misconduct had gone viral online last year, an investigation was opened by the Football Association of Zambia.

However, despite all the surface level investigation, it is unclear whether any probe was found or even any action had been taken against the guilty.

Zambia, who currently stand eliminated from the group stages of the 2023 FIFA World Cup, also had to face harsh critical comments during their press conferences. Especially Mwape, who had been continuously asked about the allegations.

Mwape, however, had the audacity to declare the allegations of sexual assault as ‘fake’ and also dismissed the demands that he should resign from his post as the head coach.

He apparently said that people had only been reading from the media and press and that the matter of truth will eventually come out and the rumours will go away.

“What are you talking about? I would like to know because there is no way I can retire without reason” he declared to the reporters.

When the New Zealand police were enquired about such an incident, they stated that even after being made aware of an alleged incident during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, it was decided that any further action was not be required to be taken after the initial enquiries.

Even after the involvement from police and the FIFA governing body, the Zambian football association has denied any such knowledge of complaint recently filed from any player or travelling delegation; stating that this has come as a “surprise” to them.
