WTC 2023 Final: BCCI names Ishan Kishan as replacement for injured KL Rahul
BCCI has made a huge announcement ahead of the WTC 2023 final against Australia by naming the replacement for injured KL Rahul heading into the game. According to Indian Express, Ishan Kishan has been named in the squad.
In a statement released earlier by BCCI, they said: “it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same.”
KL Rahul had earlier sustained injury during a game between LSG and RCB. The game had went down the wire, and KL Rahul was forced to play despite injury.
Ishan Kishan replaces injured KL Rahul
Although he didn’t harm himself while batting, it was his previous attempt to save the boundary that got him injured in a fatal way. As a result the Indian Keeper-batter was sent to NCA for further scans as well as rehabilitation.
“Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority,” the 31-year-old had posted on his social media.
There was a lot of contemplation among the pundits regarding who should get the chance to replace KL Rahul. Many weighed in on Wriddhiman Saha making a comeback to the team.
Some people even weighed in on Dinesh Karthik making a test return. However, the BCCI has decided to back Ishan Kishan with the gloves in hand. He was recently named in the squad for Australia tour, but did not make his debut.
Instead, KS Bharat was trusted with the gloves in hand. But now it seems that Ishan Kishan will get his chance to play the pivotal role behind the stumps.
Other significant injuries in Indian team
BCCI has also updated regarding injuries to pace bowlers like Unadkat and Umesh Yadav. The Saurashtra pacer has been ruled out of IPL owing to an ankle injury. While Yadav has been ruled out with hamstring issues.
The only good thing about their injuries is that they were never the frontrunners for a spot in the team. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Siraj will be the ones with new ball in hand. While Shardul Thakur will be picked as first change bowler.
India takes on Australia from 7th of June in Oval Ground London.
