It was gameweek 14 in the Premier League and this weekend the Premier League giants Liverpool Football Club hosted Leeds United. A team battling in the relegation zone of the points table and in this game, Klopp’s side were clear favourites to win this match and inch inch close to the top 4.
Leeds were absolutely in dreadful form cause even after a good start to their season by beating a club like Chelsea, after that game they hadn’t won in their next 8 matches. It was also widely reported in the English media that if Jesse March’s side did not win this game, the coach would be sacked.
So Liverpool were fighting for a place in the top 4, Leeds were fighting for a place in the Premier League next season Jesse March was fighting to stay in his job.
But despite all the motivation that the away side had, it is considered in the footballing world that Liverpool doesn’t lose at Anfield if Virgil Van Dijk is starting the age.
Van Dijk’s unbeaten record at Anfield comes to an end
This is because since arriving at the club 5 years ago, the Dutch centre back is still yet to lose a Premier League game at Anfield considering that Van Dijk is playing the match.
Hence, the odds were all against Leeds United and it was assumed that it would be a cakewalk for Klopp’s players. However, when the game started Leeds took the lead at the 4th-minute mark and they started to believe for a miracle at Liverpool’s turf.
But after 10 minutes, the Premier League giants fought back and equalized courtesy of their star man Salah and then the game was very open once again.
Then till the 80th minute,the score was still 1-1 and it was believed that either it would be a draw or Liverpool might score a last-minute goal to win the match, but at the 89th-minute mark Crysenico Summerville scored for Leeds and it was truly astonishing and courtesy of that goal, March’s team won the match.
They ended Van Dijk’s record at Anfield, moved out of the relegation zone and also kept their manager’s job still intact.
