UEFA-appointed Regulator will Have Power to Block Clubs from Joining Super League

Minister have declared their latest plans about making an independent football regulator who will be overseeing the financial sustainability of the men’s football game in England. The regulator will be empowered to prevent the clubs from joining other breakaway leagues.

The regulator assigned would be licensing the clubs and would need them to portray appropriate financial business models, run robust directors’ and owners’ tests, and most importantly, give the fans and supporters a greater say and opinion in the running of the clubs.

Reportedly, it would also be having powers to block the respective clubs from joining certain breakaway leagues. This has especially been done to prevent any attempt at forming another “Super league”, which had earlier been deemed unpopular among fans back in 2021.

The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak had stated that despite the success of the sport at both abroad and home alike, there were real challenges which had been threatening the stability of both big and small clubs.

He continued to say that these plans, although bold, would be taking back the fans at the heart of football and would be protecting the rich old heritage and traditions of everyone’s beloved clubs and save the beautiful game for the coming future generations.

FA in compliance with the Ministers against Super League

Football Association CEO Mark Bullingham also officially stated that the FA would be welcoming the plans of change , along with the Football Supporters’ Association who also nodded their agreement to the proposal by the ministers.

They stated that they supported every key proposals that had been created to offer the fans and supporters of the game greater voice in the running of their favourite clubs.

However, the Premier League was of a different point of view, it stated that they would expect the regulation to not damage the sport and that they did not want it to lead to any “unintended” consequences which could affect PL’s position as the most watched football league in the world, reduced it competitiveness, or even provide the funding they provide at risk.

The West Ham owner David Sullivan even when on to state the concerns that had emerged previously, that the regulator will have a huge staff and that football will the one paying for it.

“It will be a total waste of money. I bet it grows in size and cost every year,” said Sullivan to the Sky Sports.
