Tottenham 1-0 Man City: Harry Kane’s record goal stings City’s title defense

The title defense for Manchester City has not been easy this season. Having lost the lead to Arsenal weeks ago, they suffer another dent in the form of a shocking defeat against Tottenham.

On Sunday evening, Manchester City were up against the Tottenham in their newly constructed stadium. And the results were something any City fan wouldn’t want.

Pep Guardiola’s boys took a 1-0 thrashing from Conte’s Spurs. With Harry Kane emerging as the solitary goal scorer from the game.

Harry Kane strikes 200th Premier League Goal

Tottenham had a flying start to their game. Their main striker and second highest scorer in the club’s history changed his status in just 15 minutes.

A breakaway from the backline of Manchester City saw Harry Kane face to face with Brazilian Ederson. The goal was gaping at Kane as he took a strike to beat Ederson to his right.

This goal saw Kane register his 200th Premier League goal, and 267 overall in Tottenham colors. With this strike he overtook the all-time great Jimmy Greaves to become the top scorer in the history of the Club.

Where is Haaland?

What followed next was a colossus from Tottenham’s defense. They ensured that there was no threat to their goal what so ever. Such ferocious was their marking that the Norwegian Giant Erling Haaland wasn’t even allowed to take a touch in their box, let alone score.

Although other players like Grealish and Kevin de Bruyne came from bench to help their team’s cause, but they too were ear marked. And eventually stopped in some capacity to not have a direct go at the goal.

On the other hand, Tottenham’s breakaways were a menace to handle for City. Their Laporta and Stone-less defense had holes in it that Spurs picked up at will. Luckily enough for City, none of these chances were converted.

After immense tussle the game finally ended in Tottenham’s favor. Harry Kane’s goal turned out to be the difference between the two sides.

Arsenal’s title charge gets a boost

This win can be a huge game changer in the sense of Premier League title. Heading into the game, Tottenham would have been looking to close the gulf between them and Arsenal.

The Gunners were 5 points clear on top of the table with a game in hand. But had Manchester City won this game, they could have closed the gap by 3 points. However, Tottenham stood in the way of their title defense.

This magnificent performance from the Londoners helped their own cause as well. With 3 points from this game they now have 39 points in total and have entered the top 4 race yet again.

They are just a point away from entering the top quarter, deterred only by New Castle who have 40 points from 21 game.
