However, rain marred their second game against Afghanistan. As a result, they had to come off with a solitary point from that match. And with rain playing a major part in several other matches, it became important for a team like Kiwis to pick all points whenever possible.

With that very mindset they came into the game against Sri Lanka, the dark horse of the tournament. And the Lankans showed everyone their quality with the ball in hand.

THikshana, de Silva, and Raijita gave Sri Lanka the perfect start by dismissing 3 Kiwi batters for just 15 runs inside the 3 overs.

That is when Glenn Phillips stood up to the task of rebuilt alongside Mitchell. Together the batters added 74 runs for the fourth wicket. And Phillips as you can guess scored the most of them.

He brought up his fifty in just 39 balls. And then took just 25 balls to score the next 50 runs. Meaning he almost scored in double the rate and smashed 10 fours and 4 sixes to reach the milestone.

It notable to see that he scored more than 50% of the runs for New Zealand. In the total of 167 only 53 runs were scored by the other 8 batters.

Trent Boult puts final “bolts” in the coffin

Boult on the other hand was in a league of his own. His reputation precedes him, and he did nothing wrong to dent that.

There are not many better than Boult in conditions that support swing and seam. Boult prove that by recording one of he best spells in the history of T20 World Cup.

Trent Boult picked up four wickets in his four overs and gave away just 13 runs.

This performance of Phillips and Boult shows that New Zealand is a strong contender for the trophy.
