Surya’s knock of 68 goes in vain as India suffers first defeat of T20 World Cup 2022

Suryakumar Yadav’s unwavering resolve propels India to a respectable number after a disastrous first 10 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav’s hot streak of form continues with another landmark score, although this one is the most challenging of late.

The South African seamers overwhelmed India in the first ten overs, as half of the team was in the pavilion. India was five runs down with only 49 runs on the board, and SKY was keeping his wicket at one end. Suryakumar’s game is all about scoring swiftly and bringing the attack to the bowlers, so he needed a different avatar today.

Unflinching, resolute, and determined. Suryakumar took calculated risks in his game. It was his way or the highway. With half the wickets gone, he stood tall and waited for his opportunity to score. He struck a thirty-ball fifty, his EIGHTH international fifty of 2022, followed by a century.

Whilst he approaches the magical 1000 run milestone, he is on the verge of doing so. His 40-ball 68 rescued India out of trouble waters, bringing the total to 133 in 20 overs.

Markram and Miller stand tall

Despite Arshdeep Singh’s stunning opening over in which he dismissed both in-form hitters, South Africa weathered the storm and played on. The Indians assisted them as their fielding was shoddy.

A drop catch from Kohli and a botched run out opportunity by the captain gave them the impetus they needed, and Miller batted to the end, scoring 59.

The chase was aided by Markram’s half-century and counter-attacking strategy after the drinks.
Lungisani Ngidi was named player of the match for his four aces, and South Africa currently leads Group 2.

HOWStat.

In his last five innings, Rillie Rossow has recorded scores of 0,0,100,109,0.

He was indeed told “Go big, or Go home.”
