Ahead of SAFF Championship semifinal against Lebanon, one of the reports asked Chhetri if this will be his final tournament with the National team, Chhetri reacted by saying: ‘Wow’.
He further said, “I have no idea when my last game for the country will be. I have never had long-term targets. I think about the next 10 days, the next match and the next training session”.
Chhetri also defined saying that when he feels he is not able to compete at a good level, he will leave the National team. Playing football and playing for his nation are the two most important motivations for the striker, and money and fame are not.
The 38-year-old has probably got the final chance to show how good he has been for India in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

The Indian striker is also the second highest goal-scorer from Asia with 91 goals. He is ranked fourth among the top scores for their nation, behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Ali Daei, and Lionel Messi.
