Steve Smith Captain: will be seen in leadership role in 2nd test against WI after Cummins Injury

In a huge turn of events Steve Smith is all set to captain the 2nd test against West Indies in the absence of regular captain Pat Cummins.

Cummins reportedly picked up a niggle in the second inning of the first test against West indies. Following this he was not able to bowl as well. This had left him in doubt for the remainder of the series.

But this doubt now has been lifted as Cricket Australia have named Smith as captain for the remainder of the test series.

Steve Smith to captain Australia after nearly a year

Smith last captained Australia for the first time since his ban in 2021/22 Ashes. The situation was very similar then too as well. Pat Cummins was rested after returning Covid-19 positive before the second test against England. And Steve Smith stepped in to fill his boots.

Remember, Steve Smith scored a century in that game to take Australia to a magnificent victory against arch rivals England.

Furthermore, Scott Boland has been named as the replacement for injured Cummins. He too shall be returning to the squad after nearly a year. His last representation for Australia also came in Ashes 2021/22.
