Shams Mulani: Biography, Career and Achievements

Shams Mulani, the name synonymous with relentless spin and a never-say-die attitude, has become the hottest property in the Indian domestic circuit. The left-arm spinner has taken the Ranji Trophy by storm, carving a path for himself with his exceptional bowling and handy contributions with the bat.

Cricket Journey

Mulani’s cricketing journey began in Mumbai, where he broke into the city’s Under-16 team in 2011.  A setback early on, being dropped after just one game, only fueled his determination.  He honed his skills, focusing on fitness and developing his bowling variations. This dedication paid off, and Mulani’s talent wasn’t to be ignored for long.

The 2021-22 season marked a turning point.  Mulani unleashed his full potential, picking up a staggering nine five-wicket hauls and a phenomenal five ten-wicket hauls in just six Ranji Trophy games.  His ability to spin the web around batsmen and exploit turning pitches became a nightmare for opposition teams.

But Mulani’s impact wasn’t limited to his bowling.  He showcased a well-rounded skillset, bailing Mumbai out of precarious situations with crucial lower-order knocks.  A vital 116-run eighth-wicket partnership with Tanush Kotian against Goa in a must-win encounter exemplified his all-rounder potential.

This stellar domestic season did not go unnoticed.  The Mumbai Indians, where Mulani had honed his skills as a net bowler, recognized his talent.  He was included in their IPL squad, although he is yet to make his debut in the cash-rich league.  However, the Delhi Capitals picked him up in the 2021 IPL auction, showcasing the wider recognition he was garnering.

Mulani’s rise has been characterized by resilience and a constant hunger for improvement.  He isn’t afraid of setbacks; instead, he uses them as stepping stones.  His bowling repertoire boasts a sharp turn, excellent control, and the ability to vary pace, keeping batsmen guessing.

Achievement

The 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season saw Mulani continue his dominance.  He is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, with his tally consistently climbing.  His dream of a Test call-up and an IPL debut seems closer than ever.

Shams Mulani’s story is an inspiration for aspiring cricketers. It’s a testament to the power of hard work, self-belief, and the ability to bounce back from setbacks.  As he continues to weave his magic spell on the domestic circuit, the cricketing world eagerly awaits his next chapter, both in the whites of the Ranji Trophy and the coveted colors of the IPL.
