SA20 league: Rashid Khan creates history; Joins Dwayne Bravo to become second player to pick 500 wickets in T20 cricket

Already regarded as one of the T20 greats at just an age of 24, Afghan captain Rashid Khan created history on Monday by becoming only the second player to pick 500 wickets in T20 cricket. He has joined former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the elite list of bowlers to claim 500 wickets in T-20 cricket.

Rashid who is in charge of the MI Cape Town in the ongoing inaugural SA20 league, achieved this remarkable feat in the league’s match no.20 against Pretoria Capitals at the Newlands Stadium. This also made Rashid Khan the youngest payer to claim 500 wickets in T20 cricket at just 24 years of age.

He picked up 3 wickets in his economical spell where he conceded just 16 runs. Rashid etched his name in the record books by picking up the wicket of Cylde Fortuin for just 11 runs in the first ball of the 15th over.

This is a proud moment not only for Rashid Khan but also for Afghanistan cricket. Over the years, Rashid has been the biggest ambassador of Afghanistan in World Cricket. He has been extremely successful in international cricket along with club cricket all around the world.

This has surely inspired a lot of young buzzing talents from Afghanistan and across the world to play cricket despite all adversities and difficulties. With such plethora of achievements already at such an early age, Rashid Khan is on the roads to be called as one of the best in the shortest format of the game.

MI suffers defeat at the hands of the Capitals

Talking about the match, Rashid Khan’s remarkable achievement was spoiled by MI Cape Town’s defeat against the Pretoria Capitals. MI won the toss and put the Capitals into bat, to which the later responded brilliantly by putting on 182/8.

Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/16. He picked up Rilee Rossouw, Kusal Mendis and Clyde Fortuin which was the wicket that got him to the elite 500 wickets club. But for the visitors, Will Jacks was the star with the bat with an incredible knock of 62 from 27 balls.

In reply, the MI Cape Town were bowled out for just 130 runs as the Capitals won the match by 52 runs. Dewald Brevis was the top scorer for MI with 46 runs as the rest of the batting failed to contribute. Anrich Nortje and Wayne Parnell were the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets each.
