Ronaldo breaks FIFA records; his hattrick helps United defeat Spurs 3-2

There is only one man in the game of football who lives for breaking and making new records. And his name is Cristiano Ronaldo, now the highest goal scorer in FIFA records with 807 goals to his name.

Cristiano Ronaldo has a knack for seeking records and breaking them. But when he cannot find records to break, he makes new records. And that is what he did in his side Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday.

It was a must-win game for United, who were coming into this game having lost the Manchester derby. A defeat would not help their cause if they were to stay in the hunt for the fourth spot on the table.

Cristiano Ronaldo was sidelined for the Manchester Derby, and when he returned to the field this week, he was rearing to go. And it didn’t take him long to open the scoring for his team.

Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the game with a peach of a strike from outside the box. The Portuguese player is always known for power, and this strike was an example of the same.

This was the goal that added another achievement to Ronaldo. He leveled the record of highest goals by any player in the FIFA record books.

Earlier, the record was held by Austrian-Czech forward Josef Bican, who played between 1931-57.

Coming to the game, it was a close call between these two teams. As both of them knew that winning was the only option, they went at each other’s throats with some ferocity.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores first hattrick for United since 2008

After Ronaldo’s goal in the earlier minutes of the game, Tottenham took one back in the same half.

A silly mistake by Alex Telles gave away a penalty for Tottenham. And Harry Kane made no mistake in converting that to put his side on level terms.

Ronaldo is tough to contain, especially when he is in rearing form. Tottenham indeed couldn’t stop him as he scored his second goal of the night only three minutes later. With this goal he made the record his own. It was his 806 goal of his career.

Once again, United was on the top, and things remained that way until the halftime whistle.

Tottenham started the second half with some real intentions. They had most of the balls and threatened the United goal from time to time.

It took some time, but the pressure paid off as Harry Maguire came to Spurs’ rescue. In an attempt to block the cross by Regulation, Maguire ended up putting it inside his own net. At the 72nd minute, it was level pegging again.

For a long time, it felt as if the game would end up in a draw. While Machester United was trying, their attacks couldn’t procure any positive result. It was only until Ronaldo decided to step up yet again.

Once again, it was great physical play on show by Ronaldo, who used his body well to score an immaculate header at 81st minute to win the game for his team.

With these 3 points they climb to fourth position yet again. They have 50 points against their name from 29 matches.
