Roger Federer announces retirement from tennis

Roger Federer the tennis legend has announced his retirement.

The 41,year old took to twitter to share the news about his retirement. He shared several image, as well as a long audio clip of the same to break the news to the world.

“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form, but I also know my body’s capabilities and limits and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years,” Federer said. “Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt and now I must recognise when it’s time to end my competitive career.

Roger Federer was suffering from a long term knee injury. Last year he had double knee surgery and was recovering from the same. But he clearly mentions in his statement that his body is not supporting him anymore.

The player will be seen in the upcoming Laver cup, later in September.
