Robert Lewandowski wants to “Play alongside Messi” before retiring

Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona’s super striker, has revealed his desires of playing alongside the former Barca star, legendary Lionel Messi before retiring to the sources.

Lewandowski has only recently joined the Spanish giants, Barcelona, in the last summer and has already proven to be a fan-favourite at the Camp Nou. He has proven his skills and played a key role in Barca’s success of remaining at the top of La Liga table.

The Polish star’s deal with Barcelona takes him until the 2026 summer along with providing him with an option of adding an extra one year to his existing contract after its completion. Which means that he will be staying at the Camp Nou for a couple of more years.

With this, Lewandowski has now expressed that he has great desires of playing alongside Barcelona legend Lionel Messi on the same pitch amidst heavy speculations of Messi’s return to the club next season.

The 34-year-old has described his admiration for the Argentinian captain and said how Messi plays to role of a playmaker so greatly and how it would be dream-like for any striker to be sharing a pitch with the icon.

“It’s not up to me. Of course, we see that now he plays more like a playmaker, maybe he scores less goals and gives more passes to his teammates, but he still scores them. But compared to other times, he is now the player that any striker would dream of playing alongside,” said Lewandowski.

Messi had left the La Liga giants the previous year after the club had failed to renew his expired contract due to the financial crisis they’d been facing and their wage-budget issue. His current deal with PSG in Ligue 1 expires at the end of the season and hints are already flying of a Camp Nou return.

However, the Barca fans should not get their hopes high because latest reports have suggested that the Argentinian world champion has reached a verbal agreement with the PSG boss to remain for an additional year in Paris.

Hence, any potential pair-up between Lewandowski and Messi at the grounds of Barcelona seem unlikely.

Lewandowski also seemed to be adamant that Lionel Messi will be winning the prestigious Ballon d’Or next year after a stunning performance in the 2022 World Cup where he led his nation into a spectacular victory over France, and also won the Golden Ball.

“Of course. There is maybe one more player playing for the same club but there is only one World Cup that decides who is going to win it this season and Leo is now in the top position for sure because of what he has achieved which means everything to him. Now he can enjoy it,” added Lewandowski.
