Robert Lewandowski handed 3-Match Ban; ruled out of Atletico clash

Barcelona’s iconic striker Robert Lewandowski will be the victim of a three-match long suspension which will start on their Sunday faceoff against Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

The ban had been issued against Lewandowski back in November when he was sent off pitch in their 2-1 victory over Osasuna, their last club game before the pause for the World cup 2022.

The Polish international had received a straight up one-game long ban for a red card that dismissed him resulting from two yellow cards. He was further punished for certain gestures he had made toward referee Gil Manzano and was handed another two games suspension.

The La Liga giants, Barcelona had also appealed to the Spanish football federation (RFEF) to overturn the suspension that was handed to their forward. However, the appeal was rejected by them but the club has still continued the escalation of the issue.

The ban was in fact, even lifted temporarily, which allowed Lewandowski to play in their game against Espanyol previously in the weekend because the issue was on the process of being reviewed by Spain’s administrative court for sport (TAD). Consequently, Espanyol filed a complaint to the RFEF.

According to latest reports, the suspension of Lewandowski has been upheld and it has ruled the Polish forward for Barcelona’s games against Atletico, Getafe, and Girona in the upcoming weeks.

However, as sly as Barcelona can be, they still are aiming to appeal and therefore wanting to keep delaying this ban. But any appeal that they wish to apply for, should be submitted by the end of Thursday, as it is the last working day in Spain prior to the game with Atletico.
