A Pile of records for Prithvi Shaw

Bhausaheb Nimbalkar has the highest individual score in Ranji Trophy against his name. Nimbalkar scored 443 for Maharashtra back in 1948. Shaw’s 379 is now edged as the second highest score by an Indian in first class cricket.

The 23-year old went past former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar who was the previous holder of this record with a score of 377 runs. Shaw stitched a mountain of a partnership with Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane worth 401 runs.

However much to the relief of Assam, this huge partnership came to an end when Shaw was finally dismissed for 379 runs by Riyan Parag which denied him his well deserving 400.

Shaw finds his name in an elite list as he became the 9th batsman to cross 350 run mark in Ranji Trophy. The elite list includes Swapnil Gugale (351*), Cheteshwar Pujara (352), VVS Laxman (353), Samit Gohel (359*), MV Sridhar (366) and Manjrekar (37 .

Prior to this record-breaking innings, Shaw was having a poor Ranji season with just one fifty in the last four matches. But champions are known for their comebacks and surely Prithvi Shaw has announced his comeback in grand style.

Shaw’s marathon knock of 379 runs has surely attracted everyone and will be providing a strong case to the national team selectors for the upcoming Border Gavaskar series against Australia.

The 23-year old from Mumbai has represented India in 5 tests, 6 ODIs and 1 T20s. After not being consistent at the highest level, Shaw has started 2023 with a bang and will surely look to be back in India colours.
