Prithvi Shaw slams his second double ton in List A cricket

The Mumbai batter scored a breathtaking 244 off just 153 balls including 39 boundaries playing for Northamptonshire in the One Day Cup

Prithvi Shaw slammed his second double ton in List A cricket while playing for Northamptonshire in the One Day Cup in England. The Mumbai batter scored a breathtaking 244 off just 153 balls including 39 boundaries. This is Shaw’s second double hundred in List A cricket having scored one in Vijay Hazare Trophy. With this double century, Shaw became only the second Indian player after national team captain Rohit Sharma to score at least two double centuries in List A cricket. Opening the batting for Northamptonshire Shaw brought up his maiden hundred for the team in just 81 balls before changing the gears to crack a sensational double hundred.

The Redemption

Shaw reached his second double hundred in List A cricket off just 138 balls including 24 fours and eight sixes before getting out after playing a magnificent innings of 244 runs in just 153 balls The Mumbaikar’s previous double hundred came in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he struck an unbeaten 227 for Mumbai against Puducherry – the-then highest score in the tournament. Shaw got out in the last over of the innings. The right-hander broke Ollie Robinson’s record for the highest individual score of 206 which he scored against Kent in 2022. Shaw made a solid comeback after he was dismissed by the virtue of a bit of poor luck in the previous match as he got out hit wicket for 34 against Gloucestershire

A Crucial Knock

Shaw has been in quite indifferent form coming into the tournament as he was short of runs in the Indian domestic circuit and was also involved in some off-field controversy before redeeming himself in the One Day Cup. It was an important knock from Shaw’s point of view as he had skipped the Indian domestic zonal one-day tournament Deodhar Trophy in order to be available for the One Day Cup in England for which he had to get all the travel formalities in place
