Premier League: Marcus Rashford’s Fergie time winner help Manchester United beat West Ham

A moment of brilliance is all that makes the difference in a football match. And Marcus Rashford spotted that moment and made the most of it in the game against West Ham.

Football is a game that is known for late drama. Two teams going neck to neck in order to get the best of each other is what keeps the fans glued to the screen every day. And only true lovers can relate to the sigh of relief or frustration when a 90+ minute goal changes the game’s complexion.

Something similar happened in the Premier League bout between Manchester United and West Ham. Both the teams played their heart out for over 90 minutes in the game but failed to score even a single goal.

Considering the tactic of running down the clock by West Ham, and Manchester United’s failure in front of the goal, the draw looked certain.

The two magical subs, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford had other ideas as their flash of brilliance changed the game’s outcome for United in the final minute of the game.

Manchester United’s perfect counterattack

It was what can be described as the perfect counterattack. Collecting the ball in his own half, Alex Telles initiated the move, which included a great run by another super-sub Martial. He was the one to take the ball in the opposition’s box and then placed a great pass to the Cavani.

The Uruguayan striker collected the ball calmly and moved towards the goal. However, he quickly realised that this was not the time to win individual glory.

If he wanted, he could have gone for a shot at goal. This might or might not have resulted in a goal, but what he actually did was passed the ball to Marcus Rashford, who was attacking the far corner.

The English winger had put in all the hard yards to get to the ball first at the far corner. Now, all he needed to do was put that deft touch on the ball, which would put it behind the net. And he eventually did that.

What followed next was extreme waves of emotions as Old Trafford erupted in cheers of celebration. The players ran towards the corner, hugging and celebrating the winner, which Rashford had scored.

There was a quick VAR check to ensure that Rashford was not off-side. The referee failed to find anything wrong with the run, and the goal stood for good.

Three points from this game take Manchester past West Ham on the table. They now stand in the fourth position with 38 points in 22 games.
