Premier League: Aston Villa sack Steven Gerrard with immediate effect; know details

The inevitable has finally come to a pass as Aston Villa sacks Steven Gerrard from his managerial position.

This move took place following a humiliating defeat for Villa by the hands of Fulham on Thursday. They suffered a dismal 3-0 defeat. Following which the sacking was announced.

The players and Gerrard himself were booed by the home fans after the defeat. Which might have played a huge role in the sacking of the manager.

Aston Villa sacks Steven Gerrard

“Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect,” a statement from Villa read. “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”

Steven Gerrard gained the hem of Aston Villa mid-season in 2021. He came from Rangers to replace Dean Smith.

Under Gerrard’s command, Aston Villa played some good football and finished mid table in the Premier League.

However, this season he just couldn’t get things going. They managed to secure just 2 victories in their 11 games. And currently sit on 17th position, one above the relegation zone.

Gerrard knew that he would feel the heat. In the post-match presentation of Fulham game, he had said, “I’m a fighter, I will never, ever quit anything whether it’s football or in life. We will see what happens. I’ll continued to fight unless I’m told differently.”

What the future holds for Aston Villa?

It seems though that the Villa management ran out of patience and decided to sack the manager with immediate effect.

Steven Gerrard acted as the manager of Aston Villa in 40 games. Out of which he won 13 and lost 19 games.

Now the search for his successor is on. Villa, owned by billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, are reportedly prepared to pay one of the highest salaries in the Premier League to land a top replacement for Gerrard.
