Novak Djokovic creates history at the Rod Laver arena as he emerged victorious in his 10th Australian Open Final to claim yet another Grand Slam to his long list.

Djokovic defeated the Greek youngster Stefano Tsitsipas in straight sets of 6-3, 7-6 and 7-6, to clinch his 22nd Grand Slam title of his career.

Djokovic wins Australian Open despite injury woes

This was the second encounter between the two players in a grand slam final. Earlier in 2021 they had engrossed in the final of Wimbledon where we saw a very close encounter.

Djokovic had to comeback from match point down to claim the title. But it was not this case this time around. The former world number 1 dominated the game and emerged vicious at the end as well.

This is a massive victory for the Serbian as he is said to have endured an injury throughout the tournament. According to reports, the player had a major hamstring issue earlier on in the tournament.

Still, he decided to continue with that injury. Talking about the severity of the injury, Goran Ivanisevic said:

97% of the players, on Saturday when you get results of the MRI, you go straight to the referee office and pull out of the tournament. But not him,” he sadi, “He is from other space. His brain is working different. I’m with him four years, but it still sometimes how his brain work.”

Djokovic dominating the game

The first set started with both players going neck to neck and toe to toe. But there was something about Djokovic, that gave it away that he wanted it more than his counterpart. And that is how it turned out in the first set; the Serbian won it by 6-3.

Such was the ferocity of Djokovic, that Tsitsipas could only win one point against him while receiving the serve. The only games he won in the first set was in his own serve. This gave a great idea of what direction this game was headed.

Tie breakers to break the tie

Tsitsipas came hard in the second set and never lost sight of his opponent. Both the players won the games in their own serves. And had 6-6 by the end, calling in for a tie breaker in which Djokovic emerged victorious by the margin of 6-4.

The third set was no different. Both the players were at it to their fullest. But considering the past records, the stage, and the amount of pressure they were under, there was only one winner: Novak Djokovic.

He fought hard till the very end as both the players entered into another Tie breaker. And once again it was Djokovic who emerged victorious by the margin of 7-5 in the tie breaker.

Djokovic-Nadal rivalry reignites

With this victory, the Serbian once again becomes the number 1 ranked Tennis player in the world. He was the 4th ranked player, just below Tsitsipas, who is third.

Coming into the game both the players had the chance to grab the spot. And now Djokovic returns to the much deserved position.

He deserves all the credit, and appraises for this magnanimous performance of his. Despite battling severe injury, he managed to give it his all. And emerged victorious as well.

This is the 22nd title for Novak Djokovic, who has equaled the number of Rafael Nadal. Hence it once again intensifies the rivalry between the two players.

The fans will be hoping to witness the same in the coming Grand Slams later in the year.
