Confirming the injury, BCCI secretary Jay Shah put out a statement as well. “Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to back injury,” he said.

It has been further reported that Iyer has been asked to report at NCA in Bengaluru. There he will be put on rehab and will be required to be fit before February 9, ahead of the preparatory camp in Nagpur for Tests against Australia.

This injury can be a silver lining for another young sensation Rajat Patidar as he has received a callup to the Indian squad to fill the vacant place of Shreyas Iyer.

However, he is unlikely to feature in the series given Surya Kumar Yadav’s claim on the 4th number in the batting position after Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer the clutch India need

The Indian contingent will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Shreyas Iyer. He has been in a phenomenal form of later.

He might have scored just 94 runs in the three matches against Sri Lanka. But nobody can oppose his claim on the team sheet following a phenomenal 2022 year.

Shreyas Iyer was the second highest runscorer for India in Odis after Shubhman Gill. He scored a total of 818 runs from 20 games at an average of 92. Hence, the Indian team will want him to get fit for the ICC World Cup towards the end of the year.
