New Manchester United signing Sofyan Amrabat withdraws from Morocco squad due to injury

New Manchester United player Sofyan Amrabat has withdrawn from the Morocco squad due to an injury detected before the international break.

United finally signed a new midfielder on deadline day to bolster the squad depth. They paid €10 million loan fee to Fiorentina and will also have an option to buy him for €20 million plus €5 million add-ons.

However, now it appears that the Moroccan is injured as he was withdrawn from the national team. Morocco FA’s website confirmed that Amrabat is injured and will be replaced by Yahya Gibran.

The statement read: “Walid Regragui (head coach of Morocco) invited Yahya Gibran, a player for the Wydad Sports Club, to join the national team as it prepares for the two matches it will play against Liberia in Agadir and Burkina Faso in Lens, France.

“The national team coach, Mr. Walid Regragui, summoned the player, Yahya Jeeran, to replace the injured Sofiane Amrabat.”

Manchester United suffer blow as new signing Sofyan Amrabat suffers injury

United detected a minor back issue during Amrabat’s medical at Carrington, however he was given the permission to join his national team. But now, it seems like the injury is more serious.

Moreover, it’s still unknown how long the Moroccan will be sidelined for. If he will be out for several weeks, then the Red Devils will suffer yet another blow.

Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount are both out injured in midfield, whereas Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury against Arsenal. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Raphael Varane are also out with injuries.

Erik ten Hag will be hoping that Amrabat is not out for too long. So, if he recovers in time, he could make his United debut at home to Brighton on September 16.
