Sport is not only about Entertainment and can be a huge carrier of important message as well. And this is exactly what Mumbai Indian’s franchise is trying to promote by wearing the jerseys of their women counterparts in the game against KKR on Sunday.

Mumbai Indians will be seen in the colors of the Mumbai Indians Women’s team. They will perform this gesture on the ESA day (Education and Sports for All), an initiative by Reliance Group.

Why MI wearing WPL Jersy against KKR?

Hence, the team including the captain Rohit Sharma and his players will be seen wearing the WPL jersey in their IPL 2023 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The match will be played in the home ground of Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. And the team of Mumbai Indians Women, who won the inaugural edition of WPL 2023 are also expected to be in attendance cheering their male counterparts.

MI Wearing WPL Team Jersy a Great Gesture

This news was uploaded on the social media handle of Mumbai Indians. In that post, their coach Mark Boucher was also quoted saying, “Mumbai Indians have been fantastic in creating this initiative and hopefully, it’s going to go out to the rest of the world. The biggest lesson is that they will take away from this game as well is that seeing sports and inspiring them to be able to play sport at a professional level one day.”

Mumbai Indians’ WPL bowling coach Jhulan Goswami also commented on the same. “Definitely, it’s going to motivate them and encourage them. In the future, we will see a lot of girls coming into the sport,” she added.

MI vs KKR Preview

Mumbai Indians have not had the best starts to their season so far. They have lost 2 out of their 3 games in the IPL 2023 so far. But the last win against Delhi Capitals might have helped them as a platform to relaunch their campaign.

Leading from the front, Rohit Sharma scored his first fifty in nearly 2 seasons of IPL. Now, the entire team will be hoping to lean into the act, and follow the example set by their skipper.

Mumbai Indians are currently second last on the points table, with only 2 points to their name. In the last two seasons they have finished at the bottom half of the table. And in this season they will be determined to not let that repeat.

Hence, against Kolkata Knight Riders they will be expecting a strong performance. But it will not be an easy task either. The KKR has also had a resurgence of it’s own. Under the leadership of Nitish Rana they are chasing down tough targets, and smashing it big making every team nervy.

Therefore, it will be an interesting encounter to witness on a Sunday night.
