Milan Derby: Inter 1-0 AC Milan- Martinez strike hands Rossoneri third consecutive defeat in Serie A

In a Scintillating encounter between the local rivals Inter Milan vs AC Milan in Italy, it was the blues that got the better of their red counterparts.

A solitary first half strike by Lautaro Martinez add to the miseries of Milan as they suffer third consecutive defeat in Serie A and second against Inter.

AC Milan had come into the game looking meek. They might be the title defenders but they have not played like that this season. The restart after the world cup has not been kind to them.

AC Milan suffer 3rd consecutive defeat in Serie A

Milan had played 5 league games post the restart and managed to win just 1 game. That isolated victory also came in the restart game against bottom dwelling Salernitana.

Considering their goal conceding spree in the last two games, everyone knew that it would be hard for them to contain the Inter side and that is how it turned out to be as well.

Inter had a flying start to the game as the man with the armband was leading it. Lautaro Martinez was at the center of everything that was good for his team. He even came close to scoring on a few chances but couldn’t convert.

Lautaro Martinez strikes in first half

It seemed certain that his attacking instincts that went lacking in 2022 FIFA World Cup were back. But there was still a goal required to put everything beyond doubt. And soon that goal too arrived.

In the 34th minute of the game, Hakan Calhonoglu delivered a cross in the attacking position. Martinez was again the first to reach the ball, against Milan defenders. And this time it entered the back of the net to give home side a well-deserved lead.

Both the teams went back into the tunnel at 1-0. But Inter had their heads held high while AC Milan knew that they were gaping at third loss in a row.

The second half was no different. Inter produced most of the chances, while Milan were at the receiving end. At the end of the 90th minute it was Inter who won the game.

They were the far superior team on the pitch and had the stats to back it up.

Inter outplay AC Milan in stats

In the course of the 90 minute Inter had fair share of 64% of the possession. Furthermore, they also attempted 11 more shots than their adversaries. And had 4 of them on target, while Milan failed to hit the target even once from their 4 attempts.

Inter even out passed Milan in the mid field. They completed a total of 572 passes in comparison of just 327 from Milan, which is another sign of how one sided the encounter was.

This victory might boost the morale in inter Camp who are second in the race to win the scudetto. As things stand they are still on the 2nd position at the table and have a 13 points gap between themselves and Napoli the league leaders.

However, with a chunk of season still to go, they will hope to turn things around and hope for the best.
