Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City; Rashford Goal Keeps Utd in Running for Title

One of the oldest elite rivalries in the history of club football is that of Manchester United and Manchester City. The Manchester Derby unfolded in the Old Trafford earlier and took the stadium by storm as the home team United emerged victorious over City.

The first half of the match was mostly uneventful but it saw the continuous attack from the United forwards Rashford and Fernandes who kept pushing the ball into the penalty area and forced multiple saves out of Ederson.

Haaland remains invisible as Grealish scores

The sky blues dominated the statistical frontiers including the ball possession, and it was reflective when Jack Grealish came on pitch as a substitute and netted the ball past David de Gea providing City with a much needed lead in the 60th minute of the match.

However, the Red Devils were not the ones to sit and watch in their home ground and just like that it was Bruno Fernandes’ controversial goal which became the equalizer for United in the 78th minute.

The goal, which clearly should have been marked as offside was retained and fans globally have since criticized the decision made by the referee.

Fernandes and Rashford score

With United back in the game despite the goal being offside, it was the star of the match [not Haaland] Marcus Rashford who scored within 3:46 minutes of the controversy that Fernandes had created at the 82nd minute of the match with a stunning assist from Garnacho.

And just like that the tables had turned and the tides were in the favour of Red Devils in front of the Old Trafford crowd and snatched the victory from the sky blues late into the game.

We also got the winner between Haaland and Rashford in their much-anticipated clash where Haaland mostly remained invisible.

United are now back in the race for the Premier League title by winning all five of their past five matches and stand at the third position in the league table, slightly behind City and the table toppers Arsenal.
