Man Utd’s Ella Toone Red Card and Three-Match Ban Overturned After Appeal

Manchester United player, Ella Toone had been shown a red card earlier for her violent conduct against Tottenham, has now been overturned, and now Eveliina Summanen instead is currently facing charges for deceiving officials.

Toone was previously shown a red card upfront during United’s victory of 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because she had raised her hand at Eveliina Summanen just 10 minutes before the final whistle.

This straight red card would have ruled out the 23-year-old from the next three consecutive matches. However, United boss Marc Skinner then put allegations of “play acting” against Summanen while confirming that the club would be appealing against the card.

The club came front to defend the “passion” of the English forward on the pitch. Later the Football Association officially announced that Toone’s suspension would be overturned this Wednesday morning.

The FA also went on to state that Summanen would instead be getting charged owing to her reaction in her incident with Toone later leading to the red card against the United player.

The statement read that it was alleged that the midfielder had committed a clear act of simulation on the 80th minute of the match, leading to an opposing player being sent off with a red card; therefore her [Summanen] behavior results as an improper conduct.

On the brighter side, Toone would be set for United next match against Leicester and would not have to warm the bench during their clash against Chelsea.

Marc Skinner had stated earlier that they wanted their players to show passion, energy, and commitment. And that in his opinion, what happened was “play-acting” and that Summanen was not hurt.
