Liverpool 2-0 Burnley: Nunez and Jota fires Reds onto top spot in the Premier League table, as Klopp’s men eases past a hapless Burnley side

Liverpool has extended their unbeaten streak to one more game in the Premier League as they have strolled past a hapless Burnley side 2-0 which is currently at the penultimate spot of the Premier League table. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, two of Liverpool’s swashbuckling forwards were on target as Jurgen Klopp’s men looks to finish this year on the top spot of Premier League.

Liverpool has a walk in the park against Burnley

Liverpool has returned back to winning ways in the Premier League after two frustrating stalemates against Arsenal and Manchester United as they were treated to a easy stroll in Burnley, as the relegation battlers barely presented any challenge for Jurgen Klopp’s men who were prepared to go all guns blazing in their final game of this year. Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan striker finally got his mojo back when he broke the deadlock on the 6th minute, thus breaking his 12-game goal drought which has practically left him bludgeoned since last few games. Thus, as a rare opportunity opened up in front of him, he pounced upon that, thus sweeping the shot from the edge of the area, as Reds went past Burnley within first ten minutes. But, once again, match officials seem to have been inclined to rule out Liverpool’s second goal, when Cody Gakpo fired in his shot, but referee disallowed the goal owing to a foul committed by Nunez on the build-up of the goal, when the Uruguayan stomped on Charlie Taylor during the procession.

Jota scores the second goal

Liverpool and VAR seemed to have rekindled their fiery spirit once again as a second goal from Jurgen Klopp’s men, with Harvey Elliott on the score sheet was cancelled, when his side-footed finish was intervened by Video Assistant Referees, leaving Klopp and Reds’ players fuming at the decision.

Speaking about the Clarets’ chances in front of the goal, a double reprieve from the Reds’ helped Gudmundsson head the ball agonizingly wide from a Wilson Odobert delivery, a strike which could have restored the parity for Kompany’s side.

Portuguese Diogo Jota made a late cameo for the Reds’, as he made his long-awaited appearance on the field after suffering a hamstring knock at Manchester City four weeks ago. He was instrumental in scoring the second goal at the fag end of the game, when he squeezed a shot past James Trafford thus fittingly having a sweet ending to his little cameo, with Liverpool leapfrogging Arsenal to the top of the table.
