Lewandowski, Dembele score as Barcelona thrash Cadiz 4-0 to move to top of La Liga league table

Lewandowski scores against Cadiz

It was matchday 5 in the La Liga season and Barcelona had to face Cadiz away from home which was in itself a difficult game. However, they did not fear and played sensationally as the team won the match 4 goals to 0, and they also broke the curse of not defeating Cadiz as they hadn’t managed to defeat them since 2006.

Now that they defeated them in an incredible way, they move on top of the La Liga table with 13 points, but Real Madrid would be playing today against Mallorca and if they drop points, Barca would remain 1st due to the goal difference that they have. In this game, Xavi also equalled Zinedine Zidane’s record of not losing away from home for 16 consecutive games which he did set in 2016. So this clearly shows that the Catalan team is in outrageous form.

Xavi’s men seem to be on a mission

However, coming into this game Xavi knew that they’ll face Bayern Munich next in the Champions League so there were doubts that whether they’ll rotate or not, but the coach indeed rotated the team as they were a few surprises in the starting lineup cause Hector Bellerin made his debut, Pique started along with Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay.

However, that starting lineup was a bit shaky as after the first half the score was still 0-0. But in the second half, Xavi made some changes and brought on the likes of Lewandowski, Dembele and Ansu Fati who completely changed the game as when they came on Barca scored their first goal at 55 minutes courtesy of Frenkie De Jong. And since the first goal, they did not look back and kept on scoring as all the 3 new forwards scored in the match within 35 minutes.

This clearly indicates the attacking firepower and the squad depth that the Catalan giants have and Xav is using them carefully and incredibly. Yesterday, Bayern drew their game in the Bundesliga and that is a massive positive for Barcelona cause they face them next and Barca would be knowing that the Bundesliga team’s morale would be low and they would take advantage of it. All in all, Barca would finally look to revenge from Bayern for the humiliation they did to them last season and the previous one too.
