Kidambi Srikanth, the former world No. 1 in men’s singles badminton, displayed a dominant performance as he secured a comfortable victory over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the opening round of the Japan Open Super 750 in Tokyo. Srikanth’s exceptional gameplay ensured a 21-13, 21-13 win against the current world No. 8, avenging previous head-to-head losses.

In their eighth encounter on the badminton court, Srikanth left no room for doubt about his abilities. Despite trailing 1-6 in previous meetings, Srikanth demonstrated remarkable control throughout the match, taking an early lead of 5-0. While Chou made a brief comeback to close the gap at 10-8, Srikanth maintained his composure and continued to dominate the rallies.

At 17-13 in the first game, Srikanth powered through, claiming four consecutive points to secure the game in his favor. The momentum from the first game carried into the second, as the 30-year-old shuttler surged ahead with a 5-1 lead. Although Chou tried to narrow the deficit at 6-4, Srikanth maintained his grip on the match, dictating rallies and showcasing his power on the court.

In the mixed doubles category, the Indian pair of Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy fought hard but narrowly lost to Ye Hong Wei and Lee Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei in a closely contested match, with a final score of 21-18, 9-21, 18-21.

Later in the day, Indian shuttler HS Prannoy is set to take on All England Open champion Li Shi Feng of China, promising an enthralling showdown between two skilled athletes.
