Williamson to miss final T20I against England

Williamson will re-join the Black Caps on Wednesday (November 23), when the ODI squad convenes in Auckland ahead of the series opener against India at Eden Park on Friday (November 25).

The medical appointment, according to coach Gary Stead, had nothing to do with Williamson’s prior elbow ailment.

“Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule,” Stead said.

“The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland.”

Stead said Chapman was excited to be back with the squad after featuring in the recent T20 World Cup and Tri Series in Christchurch. “He’s a quality player who offers good versatility in the order.”

Tim Southee captain to be

Stead has confirmed that Tim Southee will captain the team in the third and final match on Tuesday night at McLean Park. Suryakumar Yadav’s 111 against New Zealand on Sunday boosted his stock as a great T20 batter, but experienced pacer Tim Southee said he will have to establish himself consistently if he is to become India’s best in the shortest format.

Suryakumar scored 111 not out off 51 balls to lead India to 191 for six, outplaying New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20 International.

“India has produced a plethora of brilliant T20 players, as well as a plethora of great cricketers.” Surya has had a fantastic year, and it is up to him to keep doing what he has been doing (for a long time),” Southee said when asked if Suryakumar is the finest T20 player from India he has bowled to.
