Juventus Get 15-Point Deduction, Paratici Handed 2.5 Years Ban for Financial Irregularities

Serie A giants, Juventus have been handed a 15-point deduction in the current season of Serie A for their alleged false accounting and financial irregularities.

Juventus’ former sporting director Paratici has got a two-and-a-half-year ban imposed on himself. He is the current managing director of football at Tottenham Hotspurs and has requested for an extension to cover for the ongoing UEFA and FIFA activities.

Juventus found guilty of flase accounting

According to the sources from Tottenham, they have given no suggestions that Paratici had been involved in any wrongdoing while he has been at Spurs.

This decision by the Italian National Football Federation (FIGC) means that Juventus will be kicked away from their current third position in the Serie A table to the 10th position, and consequently will be out of every European competition.

Juventus had earlier stated that they will be launching an appeal while waiting for the written reasons behind the sanctions imposed on them.

Juventus’ legal team had also stated earlier that there had been “clearly unequal treatment” compared to their other club counterparts like Sampdoria, Genoa, Empoli, etc. They have also expressed that they are looking forward to carefully reading the written reasons for given ruling.

According to the court ruling, former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli will be banned from holding any office in Italian football for 2 years.

The former Juventus vice president has also been imposed with an 18-month ban, while their former chief executive has also become a victim of a similar ban. However, Juventus is still denying any wrongdoing and have claimed their accounting to be in line with industry standards.

Paratici and other officials involved have intentions of appealing the decision to the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). CONI possesses the power to overrule any other decision and decide whether the decision made is correct or not. It can also reduce or change any of the sanctions imposed.

These rulings are the consequence of the resignation by the entire Juventus board, including chairman Agnelli back in November resulting from Juventus’ financial statements undergoing scrutiny by prosecutors.
