Inter Milan 1-0 FC Porto; Romelu Lukaku’s strike helps Inter Register Win in First Leg of UCL Clash

In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash between Inter Milan and FC Porto, the match saw one red card and a single lone goal.

Held in the San Siro, the match had been fairly dominated by the Serie A giants, Inter Milan, almost on all statistical frontiers with 60% of ball possession, while Porto lagged behind and was seen struggling.

Lukaku score solo goal in UCL win

However, despite dominating the statistics, Inter Milan could only convert one out of their 18 attempts of shots on the Porto goal. It was none other than the fallen Belgian international, Romelu Lukaku who score the single goal for his side.

The Inter forward, converted a rebound of failed attempt which had just bounced off the post at the 86th minute of the game and broke the deadlock of 0-0 to 1-0 which had been immovable for most of the match.

Inter’s luck might have favoured them, because exactly 10 minutes before the winning goal by Romelu Lukaku, in an eventful incident, Porto’s Otavio was shown a red card in the 78th minute of the game owing to two offences, leading to a 10-man Porto defending against Lukaku’s Inter.

Inter triumphs over FC Porto

Porto had disappointingly missed two bright chances at the Inter goal to lead from 0-0, however, Inter’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana stood rigid like a wall in front and deflected attempts from Zaidu Sanusi and Mehdi Taremi.

Inter themselves had missed chances at the Porto goal several times, coming the closest right before the end of first half, but Porto’s Diogo Costa denied Alessandro Bastoni’s header’s urge to find home.

The second of this round of 16 will be taking place on 14th of March at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao.
