Indian Shooting Team Clinches Silver in Women’s 50m Rifle 3P at Asian Games 2023

In a remarkable display of skill and precision, India secured their 15th medal at the Asian Games 2023, with Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey, and Manini Kaushik claiming the silver medal in the women’s 50m Rifle 3P event. This achievement marks India’s fifth silver medal at the games and adds to their impressive medal tally.

Narrow Second-Place Finish

The Indian shooting team finished with a total of 1764 points, coming agonizingly close to the gold medal as they trailed China by just nine points. The trio exhibited their shooting prowess with consistent performances, accumulating scores of 292 and 290 points in the kneeling position, 297 and 300 points in prone, and 292 and 293 points in the standing position.

The Republic of Korea, represented by Kyerim Lee, Sanghee Lee, and Eunseo Lee, secured the bronze medal with a total of 1756 points, showcasing the fierce competition in the event. India’s Sift Kaur Samra had an exceptional individual performance, finishing second in the individual qualification round of the women’s 50m Rifle 3P event. She achieved a national record score of 594, further highlighting her shooting prowess. Samra found herself tied on points with China’s Xia Siyu, with both athletes scoring equally. However, Xia Siyu secured the top spot due to having more inner 10s.

Ashi Chouksey also advanced to the individual final, securing the sixth position with a total of 590 points. Manini Kaushik, however, faced a challenging day in the individual round and finished 18th with 580 points.

Gold in Women’s 25m Rapid-Fire Pistol

In another remarkable feat for India, the women’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team clinched the gold medal. The Indian trio of Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker, and Rhythm Sangwan demonstrated their exceptional shooting skills, amassing a total of 1759 points. India secured victory by a narrow margin, edging past China by just three points.

Manu Bhaker led the qualification round with a stellar performance, achieving 590 points. Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan also excelled in the qualification, with scores of 586 and 583 points, respectively. Their outstanding contributions ensured their participation in the final round. With these impressive achievements, Indian shooters continue to shine at the Asian Games 2023, reaffirming their dominance in the sport.
