Indian Football Team Enters sub-100 FIFA Ranking First Time Since 2018

In a historic moment, the Indian men’s national football made a stunning achievement earlier on Thursday as they have made it into the sub-100 FIFA ranking for the first time ever since 2018, which was five years ago.

India climbs up FIFA rankings after SAFF Championship win

This historical achievement has only become possible owing to the fact that the men’s Indian football team won the SAFF Championship previously this year, contributing into the team moving into the 9th position, one spot above.

Just previously in the beginning of this month, the Indian team had shown exceptional performance in the SAFF Championship as they beat teams of robust statures like Kuwait and Lebanon in a penalty shoot-out for the semi-final and finals of the tournament.

India’s victory at the championship has also contributed in igniting a spark in the public all over the country. However, India is not the only team who gained ranks in FIFA’s books.

Lebanon and Kuwait also saw their respective gains as Lebanon’s ranking is just one spot below India at the 100th spot as they gain two spots in the list. On the other hand, the Kuwaiti side saw an increase of four places as they moved up at 137th place in the latest FIFA chart issued on Thursday.

India enters top-100 FIFA rankings first time since 2018

The West Asian nations of Kuwait and Lebanon were invited to the SAFF Championship for deeper reasons and one of them being to ensure more healthy and strong competition between them teams in the tournament.

India, who currently has 1208.69 points, reached its best ever ranking in his back in 1996 when we saw our nation being ranked at the 94th positions. Apart from that, India has seen itself inside top-100 on two other occasions, 99th in 1993 and 96th in 2017 and 2018.

After being ranked 100th last month, India once again sees itself inside the top-100 ever since 2018.

As for the overall rankings, the top position, needless to say is being held by the World Champions, Argentina, and right after them being is Kylian Mbappe’s France, then followed by Brazil, England and Belgium.

In the Asian side, Japan is the leader as they hold the 20th position in the list, with Iran (22), South Korea (28) and Saudi Arabia (54).
