India Shatters World Record, Wins Gold in Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team Event at Asian Games 2023

India made history at the Asian Games 2023 as the men’s 10m air rifle team secured the Gold medal. The triumphant trio of world champion Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Divyansh Panwar, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar not only clinched the gold but also shattered the world record in a team event. Their remarkable performance yielded an astounding total score of 1893.7 in the qualification round.

Record-Breaking Scores

In this record-breaking feat, Rudrankksh Patil contributed 632.5 points, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar scored 631.6, and Divyansh Panwar added 629.6 to the tally. Notably, both Rudrankksh and Aishwary qualified for the Men’s Individual 10m Air Rifle final during this exceptional display.

The previous world record of 1893.3 had been set by a Chinese team less than a month ago at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. India’s outstanding performance not only secured gold but also marked a significant shift in the air rifle team event dynamics.

South Korea clinched the silver medal with a total score of 1890.1 points, while China secured the bronze with 1888.2 points. India’s gold in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team Event added to the nation’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games, which includes one gold, three silver, and three bronze medals across various disciplines.

Individual Brilliance

In a thrilling continuation of India’s shooting success, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar secured a bronze medal in the men’s 10m air rifle individual final. Tomar displayed remarkable skill, accumulating a total of 228.8 points in the final. The gold medal in this category was claimed by Lihao Sheng of China with 253.3 points, while the silver went to South Korea’s Hajun Park, who scored 251.3 points.

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar’s bronze-winning performance included a dramatic shoot-off victory against his compatriot Rudrankksh Patil, who finished fourth with 208.7 points. While both shooters excelled, they might have aimed for higher positions in the final standings after contributing significantly to India’s ‘record-breaking’ gold medal earlier.

India’s performance in shooting at the Asian Games 2023 has been impressive, with this victory marking the nation’s fourth medal in the shooting discipline at Hangzhou.
