“I Would Lower My Salary Again”Jordi Alba wanting to stay at Barcelona at all cost

Barcelona icon Jordi Alba has stated that he is ready to lower his salary to stay in the Catalan club after saying that he felt like a victim of a media witch hunt.

Barcelona have been warned by the La Liga president Javier Tebas that he anyhow needed to cut their salary bill by €200mn ($214mn) before the commencement of next season.

In a recent press conference, Barca president Joan Laporta stated that half of the amount has been dealt with, with only €70mn ($75mn) remaining on their plate waiting to be solved.

When asked of the matter in an interview, Jordi Alba said that he was more than happy to make the sacrifice for the club and see his own salary being lowered so he could make things work with the Spanish club.

Alba was asked if he was going to complete the remaining year on his contract, to which he responded by saying of course he would since he felt qualified and thought he was at a good level.

Alba continued that it was true he did not play in every game, but whenever he went out, he tried doing his very best and that when he was not playing, he was always trying to help his teammates by showing his support from the bench.

He also confessed that it was new for him since he was lucky enough to be playing a lot of minutes on pitch generally, but his year, not so much. But since he also had his minutes, he was happy with his role and that it was important to help and advise his colleagues, since it motivated him.

It was then that Alba was asked if he was prepared to see his wages being cut to stay further in 2023-24, to which Alba said without any hesitation that yes it was a club decision and he was always happy to help whenever asked.

Alba said that there were many lies told in the media and that in the end he has always been there in the club and that no one could say otherwise about him. He stated there were things that hurt him, but he knows how to live with it because he knew his truth and was calm.

Alba also said that his intention was to help the club and maintain the happiness of both parties since it was “more of a media issue” because of which some insisted on him retiring from the Camp Nou.

“I feel good, I feel capable, and have the support of the coach and the teammates,” he expressed. “When I go down the street, people let me know. I feel good and the day I feel that I am not capable of defending a club like Barcelona, ​​I will be the first to leave.”
