“I Sleep Well” says Erik Ten Hag on Dropping Cristiano Ronaldo Against Liverpool

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag has stated that he had slept well after he made the decision of dropping Cristiano Ronaldo from the team clashing against Liverpool back in August at the Old Trafford.

This decision, apparently, has triggered the departure of the Portuguese legend from the club back in November in a controversial manner.

Erik Ten Hang did not lose any sleep over Ronaldo

Ronaldo had expressed his urge to leave United back in the summer but the move was not successful. Later Ten Hag had made Ronaldo warm the bench throughout their Liverpool clash and substituted him in only in the last 4 minutes of their 2-1 win.

This match became a catalyst for all events that followed, Ronaldo’s refusal to come on in their match against Tottenham, his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, and later his contract termination by mutual consent.

However, Ten Hag has now admitted that his decision of leaving Ronaldo off for the game was “obvious” and that he did not lose any sleep over it. Ten Hag also stated that it was one of the first major decisions he made at United and was willing to face consequences for it.

Ten Hag said that he always had to think strategic and what were the consequences of it in the long-term, and that he was aware of it all and it was the part of his job to take the responsibility of it.

Ten Hag continued to say that he had reasons for his decisions and that they were obvious, fully knowing the consequences and the negative outcome from the game, since anything was possible in football.

“But I am not worrying. I sleep well also in those nights,” said ten Hag.

He stated that the decisions he takes were for the advancement of the club and team, and that this was his job and standing for his decisions were a responsibility he had to take.
