Gautam Gambhir Has His Say On Virat Kohli-Naveen-ul-Haq Hug, Slams Crowd For Jeers And Taunts

One of the main talking points, in cricket news, leading up to India vs. Afghanistan’s Cricket World Cup 2023 match on Wednesday was the face-off between Virat Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq. However, the two players put a stop to their rivalry during India’s innings with an embrace.

While Kohli and Naveen got into a fight on the field during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, they appeared friendly during the Cricket World Cup encounter. The star of the Indian cricket team even ordered the New Delhi fans to stop making fun of the fast bowler from Afghanistan.

Gautam Gambhir Has His Say On Virat Kohli-Naveen-ul-Haq Hug

While commentating on the situation, Gautam Gambhir—who was also involved in the altercation during the IPL game—weighed in on the hug and chastised the spectators for their remarks.

“You fight on the field, not off the field. Every player has the right to fight for his team, fight for respect, and fight to win. It doesn’t matter which country you belong to or how good of a player you are. The good thing was when we saw Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq in between the overs, we can see that the fight has ended,” Gambhir said on commentary during the match.

“I would also want to tell the crowd and fans that any player in the ground or on social media, shouldn’t be trolled or made fun of. You are passionate when you represent your team. It was a huge thing for Naveen to play in IPL for the first time coming from Afghanistan,” the former India opener added.

Rohit’s ton, Kohli fifty helps IND take AFG to the cleaners

With a World Cup century to match, Rohit Sharma on Wednesday eclipsed fellow countryman Sachin Tendulkar and guided India to an overwhelming eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan.

The hosts won the 50-over main event for the second time in a row in New Delhi, riding Rohit’s 131 to help them reach their goal in 35 overs. They had been chasing 273 for victory.

He broke Tendulkar’s World Cup record of six tons with a century off 63 balls, raising the almost full house to its feet.

In addition, Rohit’s century was quicker than Kapil Dev’s century in 72 balls against Zimbabwe in 1983, making it the fastest century by an Indian in a World Cup.

As Rohit passed Chris Gayle’s record of 553 sixes in all forms and scored 1,000 World Cup runs, he smashed the ball to every part of the ground.

In his 84-ball innings, the flamboyant opener smashed 16 fours and five sixes before Rashid Khan, a leg-spinner, bowled him.

After a strong bowling display on a batting-friendly pitch, his opening combination of 156 with left-hander Ishan Kishan, who hit 47, extended the team’s domination.

Soon after taking over, Virat Kohli struck an undefeated fifty-five and added a boundary to end the game.

After choosing to bat first, Afghanistan scored 272-8 on a pitch where South Africa had just thrashed Sri Lanka with 428 runs, setting a World Cup record. For the host team, Jasprit Bumrah stood out thanks to his best 4-39 World Cup bowling stats.
