Ex-PSG manager Christophe Galtier named as new Al Duhail manager

Ex-Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has been named as the new head coach of Qatari club Al Duhail.

Galtier led star-studded PSG to the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup triumph last season. However, he left the club in the summer and has now joined Al Duhail, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The Frenchman, will be joined by his assistants Joao Sacramento and Thierry Oleksiak in Qatar, who also worked alongside him at PSG.

Al Duhail, who currently sit 4th in the QSL table, signed Philippe Coutinho on loan last month from Aston Villa.

Why PSG sacked Galtier in the summer?

Galtier was sacked by the Ligue 1 club after he failed to deliver in the Champions League as PSG were knocked out in the Round of 16. The 57-year-old was then replaced by former Barcelona and Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique.

He was also under investigation for alleged racist remarks pertaining to his time as Nice manager the previous season. However, Galtier has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr also left the club alongside Galtier in the summer. Even after signing new players and appointing an experienced manager like Enrique, PSG are struggling to get positive results.

Moreover, they recently suffered a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Champions League group stage and sit 3rd in the Ligue 1 table below Monaco and Nice.

The new Al Duhail coach was also linked with a move to Olympique de Marseille and Napoli but decided to join the Qatari side. According to reports, Galtier has signed a two-year deal with the Qatar Stars League club.

This is a new challenge for Galtier, as previously he only managed French clubs: Saint-Etienne, Lille, Nice and PSG. Galtier won two Ligue 1 titles, Coupe de la Ligue and Trophee des Champions in his time at France.

Furthermore, he has also been awarded the Ligue 1 Manager of the Year on three occasions.
