England 3-0 Wales; Rashford’s Brace Takes England to Round of 16

England has a spectacular victory of 3-0 over their Welsh counterparts in the group match that unfolded in the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium earlier. This victory, mingled with the previous success that the English team has had, has taken them to the knockout stages without much struggle.

In the much-anticipated match because of the Wales–England rivalry and the prospect of the two captains, Gareth Bale clashing against Harry Kane had an electrifying effect on the crowd. But clearly, the former was not much impactful for most of the match, while the latter had a fantastic game with one assist.

The three lions had utterly dominated the match on all fronts, including statistical veneers, ball possession, shots, shots on target, passes, etc., including the most important, the scoreline of goals scored.

England dominate the game

While scoring three goals, the English also managed to keep a clean sheet against Wales. The English defence was like an iron wall that had kept the likes of Gareth Bale and other attacking units dormant, with only seven shots throughout the match.

On the contrary, the English attack had been piercing the Welsh defence left and right; with the number of times they broke through, the goal difference should have been more comprehensive. Their very first confidence booster came in the 50th minute from none other than the talented Marcus Rashford, and just a minute later, followed by Phil Foden’s incredible goal that he netted after a spectacular assist from Harry Kane.

Rashford seals the deal

The sealing goal came in the 68th minute of the game from Rashford again, which sealed England’s victory and a spot in the round of 16 and Wales’ fate of returning home in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

England is now set to face Senegal in their next opening match for round of 16, while they sit pretty at the tabletop, and Wales, having finished last in their group, has been eliminated, of course. On the other hand, the USA will be progressing alongside England to the knockouts.
