Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out of Manchester derby

The Red Devils suffer another significant blow ahead of the Manchester derby. Their ace striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of the match.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Portuguese player is suffering from an injury. However, he is not the only player to miss out on the game.

Manchester United’s only other striker Edinson Cavani is also said to be sidelined for the match. This series of injuries in a short span has left the United’s manager with a lot of thinking to do.

Ronaldo is their highest goal scorer for the season. He has scored 15 goals in 30 appearances this season. Although only one of them has come in 2022, that too in the game premier league game against Brighton.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury opens chances for Rashford

Rangnick, the interim manager, has a spare center forward in the form of Marcus Rushford. But he, too, has not been in great form recently.

The last time Rashford put the ball behind the net was in the game against West ham United on 22nd January.

While Manchester United is already looking for a permanent replacement to Rangnick, the German will be appearing in his first-ever Manchester Derby on Sunday.

His team is currently acquiring a Champions League position in the table, but it doesn’t look stable. And the most significant reason behind it is their lack in converting the goal-scoring chances.

In the last 12 matches, Manchester United has only scored 17 goals in the Premier League. When asked about the club’s recent form, Rangnick said, “A few things have happened in the last couple of months that couldn’t have been foreseen by anybody.”

The German backs Rashford to fill in the big shoes of Ronaldo and Cavani, though. Talking about the English national, Rangnick assured, “I will put all my energy into that, to help him to take the same pathway that other players did in the last three months.”
